World's Highest Bungee Jump!!
I arrived in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa yesterday. It is a short drive from here to the Bloukrans bridge, the site for the Guinness Book of World Records highest commercial bungy jump, in the world. The jump is 216 meters or 708 feet.

We left at about 9am this morning to head out to the bridge. The Bloukrans bridge spans a huge gorge with a river that runs through it and into the ocean. The bridge is also the highest bridge in Africa. After we arrived I was fitted with a harness that would be attached to the bungee cord. Next, I was lead down to a walkway that runs under the bridge to the jumping area. The flooring of the walkway was similar to a chain link fence but stronger, so you could see right through to the bottom.

After getting strapped in they attached the bungee cord to the harness. My feet were bound together so they helped me to the edge. It wasn't until then as I was looking over the edge, I saw just how high this really was. My toes were over the edge and I heard them count down 3-2-1 Bungee! And I just went for it.

FlyingAt first it was the scariest thing I've ever felt, and after that split second of fear it was amazing. Since the jump is so high, it has the longest free fall time. And it was like I was flying. Completely free, floating in the air. They said you can reach speeds of 240 mph, and it was amazing!

After the bungee cord kicked in it was a beautiful view from where I was. I hung there upside down just smelling the fresh air and taking a deep breath after an incredible ride. Soon afterward a person came down and put me into an upright position and hung out with me while we were hoisted back up to the top.

In the afternoon I went on a whale watching boat trip and we saw the huge Southern Right Whale up close. Sometimes a couple, male and female together, and sometimes a mom and a calf. The coolest part about seeing whales is when they dive under their huge tail comes out of the water and straight into the air, and then is followed by jumping straight out of the water and making a big splash as they land.

Tomorrow I leave to return back to Cape Town and go paragliding off of Table Mountain. And Friday I fly home, arriving in San Diego Saturday afternoon.
